"Air pollution is made up of many kinds of gases, droplets and particles that reduce the quality of the air"(Air Pollution).
Air Pollution is the result of ozone, carbon dioxide, and urban air pollution also known as smog (Pollution). Sometimes, air pollution can cause acid rain when it is concentrated enough. [Sources of Pollution]A second type of air pollution is photochemical smog. This type of smog is attributed to car combustion, which is also similar to truck and airplane emissions (Pollution). These emissions release hydrocarbons into the air that combine with oxygen to create ozone (Pollution). Air pollution first became a problem during the industrial revolution. This took place during the 18th and 19th centuries (Pollution). Air pollution is believed to be the cause of the deterioration of the ozone and the atmosphere. There are other causes to air pollution that are caused by consumers on a daily basis. For example, aerosols are a leading contributors in the destruction of the ozone.
Cleaning up air pollution is just as big of a problem as is the pollution itself. By 2010 the U.S. will have spent 50 billion dollars a year on the reduction of pollution. By the year 2020, the cost will have doubled to 100 billion dollars a year (Cost of Greenhouse Gas).
